Brick-making in Nepal is an informal sector that is still highly labour-intensive. It employs transient workers who are extremely marginalized and exposed to poor working and living conditions.
Around 300,000 male and female workers were estimated to be engaged in brick production in Nepal in 2019, with the majority of the workplace comprising migrants from marginalized and highly vulnerable social groups.
I have visited the brick factory with the help of Our Sansar in pursuit of capturing footage of child labour in these factories.
I only had the chance to visit the factory once, and at that particular time, we did not find any children working there. Our Sansar has continued the investigation that led to the rescue of the children. The rescue mission has been beautifully documented by Vice.
